The areas to be effected are east and west side of Mirpur-10, Agargaon Road, Monipur, Kazipara, Shewrapara, Pirerbagh. Barabagh, Agargaon, Senpara, Ibrahimpur, area between Kochukhet and Bhasantek, north Kafrul, Taltola, Kalyanpur, Shyamoli, Mirpur-1, Mirpur-2, Mirpur-6, Mirpur-7, Ahmadnagar, Paikpara, Shialbari, Rupnagar, Arambagh, Eastern Housing, Mirpur Cantonment and surrounding areaThe long-awaited Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) line is now facing snags despite progress in selecting contractors for some package work.
The tender process of two major work could not be completed yet to give work orders, officials said.
They said the project office has already given work order for four packages to develop and build necessary infrastructures on depot land and viaduct on the first 10 kilometres of the MRT line.
But the office is taking time to complete tenders for three other packages though it has completed the evaluation process.
The first tender for the Tk 220 billion Dhaka Mass Rapid Transit Development (DMRTD) project was launched in January 2015 to invite parties to supply 24 pairs of train sets and necessary equipment for rolling stocks.
Since then, it has already floated eight tenders and given work orders to only four.
Progress of the first work order, which is to develop depot land in Uttara, was found impressive as the contractor completed its monthly targeted work in due time.
The project office has also given work order to a Thai company to start construction of viaduct from Uttara to Agargaon. The same company was also awarded contract to develop necessary infrastructures on the depot land.
"But the project office has not yet completed the selection of contractor of the first tender to buy train sets and construct viaduct of the second half of the 20km MRT line-6. These are necessary to launch metro rail by 2019," said a source.
He said the selection of contractor for the package 8 is necessary to buy train sets as it would need time to manufacture and supply those.
Officials said the evaluation progress of contract package 5 and 6, under which the second half of MRT viaducts will be built, has been completed. The project's Japanese financier has also given concurrence to the selection.
But the project office is taking time fearing the possible chaos in a city that suffers from chronic traffic congestion.
However, the officials said the DMRTD project is still on the track though it is already six months behind the schedule due to last year's Holey Artisan incident.
He said contractors and consultants have already covered up the delay and made progress.
The DMRTD's new project director refused to talk to the FE. But an official said the work orders for the rest of three packages would be given by next month.

ওবায়দুল কাদের বলেন, “হলি আর্টিজান হামলার কারণে মেট্রো রেলের কাজে ৬ মাস পিছিয়ে গেছি। কারণ এরপর থেকে বিদেশিরা আতঙ্কে ছিল। আমরা তাদের সবরকম নিরাপত্তার ব্যবস্থা করেছি। এখন তারা নিরাপত্তা সমস্যায় ভুগছে না। আগের মতো পুরোদমে কাজ করছে।”
